Still Symbols Share Stories Serenely

A book often belongs to more than one person.

As it is read, collected, and passed on, stamps, inscriptions, and marks gradually accumulate on its pages, recording the time it has traveled and the people who once owned it. This exhibition invites you to look through these traces—imprinted on the pages of books—and discover the stories of their lives.

Have you ever wondered where special collections books come from?

Most books entering the National Chengchi University Libraries arrive through purchase, donation, or deposit. Yet the volumes preserved in the Special Collection Center are valued not only for the knowledge they contain, but also for the traces of time they bear. Stamps, bookplates, and inscriptions not only mark ownership; they also quietly record the journeys of books as they pass from hand to hand. Beyond the printed text, these marks offer another way to study history.
