Quick Search using E-Resources Gateway -- E-Journals System
The E-Resources Gateway – E-Journals System offers a simple, integrated and effective platform to access E-Resources via the NCCU Libraries website. The following are simple steps to source for a particular journal, The Communications of the ACM, Volume 59, Issue 1, 2016.
【STEP1】:Entering the E-Resources Gateway – E-Journals System platform.
Go to NCCU Libraries Homepage. At the Hot Services section on the left-hand side of the web page, click on E-Resources Gateway – E-Journals System.
You will be brought to the NCCU Libraries E-Resources Gateway -- E-Journals [Resources Search] page.

【STEP 2】: Entering your search terms into the E-Resources Gateway – E-Journals System platform.
In the NCCU Libraries E-Resources Gateway E-Journals [Resources Search] page, enter your search terms in the search box under [Resources search] and click the [search] button. Your search results shall be listed.
For our example, we are searching for the Journal with its title. Hence, as shown in Figure 2, in the search box we shall enter Communication of the ACM and change the drop-down menu beside the search box to Resources Title (tim) to get a more concise search result. In the case where you are unsure of your search term, choose All fields in the drop-down menu.

【STEP 3】: Getting more information on your Journal and finding the issue information.
After finding your Journal in the results displayed, click on its button to assess its information page.
*In a Journal, the issues may be licensed to different digital libraries (means Journal Access Service or Vendor) depending on its licensed digital libraries at the time of issue. Therefore, it is important to know which digital library is licensed to the issue you are looking for.

【STEP 4】: Finding the digital library to access to.
In the information page of your Journal, you will find a list of specific information on your Journal as seen in Figure 4. To find out which digital library the issue you are looking for is licensed to, refer to Journal Access Service or Vendor.
For our example, the issue is licensed and available in both digital libraries. We shall choose EBSCOhost Business Source Complete in this search.

【STEP 5】Accessing the digital library (means Journal Access Service or Vendor)
To access the issue in the digital library, click on the Title in the Information page as highlighted in Figure 4. You will be brought to another search page, which classifies each search options by its respective digital libraries, as shown in Figure 5.
With the information you found in [STEP 4], go to the search options respective to the digital library your issue is licensed to.
If you know the details of the issue you are looking for, enter them into its respective search boxes, else, leave the search boxes blank and enter . You will be redirected into the e-database of your Journal in the digital library website.
In our example, we shall leave all search boxes blank.

【STEP 6】 Navigating within the e-database of the digital library (EBSCOhost)
After being redirected into your Journal’s database in the digital library, you will see the publication details of your journals on the right-hand side of the webpage. All full texted issues available in the digital library are listed on the left-hand side of the webpage, cataloged base on its year of issue.
In our example, we choose to access the Journal through the EBSCOhost – Business Source Complete digital library. As highlighted in Figure 6, we are able to access the full text of The Communications of the ACM, Volume 59, Issue 1, 2016 under the drop-down options of 2016.

When searching for a full-texted e-journal, we highly recommend users to use the E-Resources Gateway – E-Journals System instead of the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) on the NCCU Libraries homepage (Figure 1) as journal resources available in the OPAC is very limited as compared to the E-Resources Gateway- E-Journals System.
In the case of using the OPAC to find your Journal, you will be brought to the catalogue page of your journal in the OPAC system. Ensure that the result you found is in digital format by ensuring that at the title, it is specified [electronic resource] format. Thereafter, click on the Find it @ NCCU , as shown in Figure 7, which will redirect you to the E-Resources Gateway – E-Journals System.
