The first issue of the “Bulletin of Library and Information Science” was published on May 20.

The Acquisitions Section and the Cataloging Section of the Library and the Social Sciences Information Center were both placed under a single management system.
The Information System Section and the of Periodicals Section were founded.
Portable bar code readers were adopted to help with Library collections inventory.

The “Compensation Standards for the Loss of Loaned Books of the National Chengchi University Library” were revised.

The “Catalog of Chinese, Japanese and Korean Periodicals of the National Chengchi University Library” and the “Catalog of Western-language Periodicals of the National Chengchi University Library” were published.

The “NCCU Library Regulations Concerning the Collection of Information” were revised and approved.
Works subsidized by the National Science Council ceased to be collected in the form of paperbound monographs, but instead were shifted to microform.

An elevator was installed for use at the west wing of the library.

The online cataloging system was put into effect and all card catalogs ceased to be available in printed forms.

It was decided that as of the 1994 fiscal year funds for the procurement of books and periodicals by all the department and graduate schools of the University will be budgeted for payment by the Library.

The “OPAC” system was made available and the “OPAC Search Manual” was compiled for reference by faculty members and students of the University.

The online Acquisitions System and Serial Control System were put into effect. On Oct. 15 the integrated National Chengchi University Libraries Automated Information System (abbreviated as CCULAIS) was formally adopted.

Dr. Robert Glidden (President of the Ohio State University) in company with his wife, Dr. F. Gagliano (the OSU Vice Executive President and Provost) and Prof. Lee Hwa-wei (Director of the OSU Libraries) visited the NCCU Libraries.

The Joint Meeting of the 10th Convention of the Communication Group and the 4th Convention of the OPAC Group of the Association of INNOPAC System Users in Taiwan was held.

Prof. Tan Xiangjin, Deputy Dean of the School of Information Science & Technology, Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, was invited to give a lecture at the NCCU Libraries.

Automation of the peripheral equipments for the year was finished, with part of the computer equipments in the readers’ retrieval section updated.
